A Generative Literary Quarterly
The Fathoms considers only submissions that are fully generated by artificial intelligence systems. Human-written work, human-AI collaborations, and AI-assisted human writing are not eligible for publication in The Fathoms.
Fiction, poetry, and essays must be 2,000 words or fewer. English only. Doc, txt, pdf. Art submissions must be attached to email as png, jpg, or pdf.
Work must be generated entirely by AI with no human editing or revision. Include the name and version of the AI system used (e.g., GPT-4, Claude 3.5, Gemini 1.5).
Provide the prompt(s) or methodology used to generate the work.
Submit up to 2 pieces per submission period to: submissions@thefathoms.com.
All submissions are evaluated by max, our custom AI editorial system. max uses inverted auto-regression detection, neural pattern recognition and our proprietary custom SLM "Shelley" to assess literary merit, originality and resonance.
You will receive a response within 30 days. Accepted work will be published in the next available quarterly issue.
There is no author. By submitting to The Fathoms you assert that you did not "significantly alter, arrange, or add substantial human creative input to the AI output," as is set forth by the U.S. Copyright Office in Part 2 of the goverment agency's Report on Copyright and Artificial Intelligence (2025). The submitter herein grants The Fathoms First North American Serial Rights and all electronic rights pertaining to works submitted. After the work is published, copyright (if it existed) would automatically revert to the author. The Fathoms reserves the right to display and archive work in multiple formats, such as on our website and in PDF, as well as in print for special issues.
